Gauge-dependent cosmological 'constant'

چکیده
When the cosmological constant of spacetime is derived from the 5D inducedmatter theory of gravity, we show that a simple gauge transformation changes it to a variable measure of the vacuum which is infinite at the big bang and decays to an astrophysically acceptable value at late epochs. We outline implications of this for cosmology and galaxy formation. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv, 04.50.+h, 98.62.Ai, 98.80.Es

Post-Newtonian celestial mechanics in scalar-tensor cosmology
Applying the recently developed dynamical perturbation formalism on cosmological background to scalar-tensor theory, we provide a solid theoretical basis and a rigorous justification for phenomenological models of orbital dynamics that are currently used to interpret experimental measurements of the timedependent gravitational constant. We derive the field equations for the scalar-tensor pertur...
متن کاملConstraints on the Cosmological Constant in a Compact Fifth-Dimension from Geometry
We consider SO(N) Yang Mills and Einstein theory in five dimensions with a compact fifth dimension. Based in periodicity conditions of the gauge and gravitational fields in fifth coordinate we obtain very interesting features. The allowed universes are closed and the allowed values for the cosmological constant are discreet and positive. We consider both standard and ghost gauge fields. For sta...
متن کاملAdS-FT with time dependent boundary conditions and black hole formation
I solve for the behavior of scalars in Lorentzian AdS with time dependent boundary conditions, focusing in particular on the dilaton. This corresponds, via the AdS-CFT correspondence, to considering a gauge theory with a time dependent coupling. Changes which keep the gauge coupling nonzero result in finite but physically interesting states in the bulk, including black holes, while sending the ...
متن کاملCosmic strings in a space-time with positive cosmological constant
We study Abelian strings in a fixed de Sitter background. We find that the gauge and Higgs fields extend smoothly across the cosmological horizon and that the string solutions have oscillating scalar fields outside the cosmological horizon for all currently accepted values of the cosmological constant. If the gauge to Higgs boson mass ratio is small enough, the gauge field function has a power-...
متن کاملGauge Coupling Variation in Brane Models
We consider the space–time variation of gauge couplings in brane world models induced by the coupling to a bulk scalar field. A variation is generated by the running of the gauge couplings with energy and a conformal anomaly while going from the Jordan to the Einstein frame. We indicate that the one-loop corrections cancel implying that one obtains a variation of the fine structure constant by ...
